Auto Glass Basics

The windshield provides structural integrity to the vehicle. In a front end collision the windshield provides up to 45% of the structural integrity and in a rollover, up to 60%.

It is much better for the windshield to absorb over half the force of the collision rather than yourself.  This can happen if your windshield was not properly installed and it flew out in an accident. This has and will happen in the future if proper installation procedures are not followed.

The windshield keeps the roof from crushing in on you in a rollover, it allows the airbags to deploy in the correct position to cushion passengers, and prevents you and your family from being ejected in a serious collision.

You must be sure that the steps taken to repair your vehicle will meet the requirement of FMVSS 208 and 212.

Replacement Time
In most cases an Auto Glass Replacement should take approximately 60 minutes. This time can very based on the severity of the damage along with proper clean up and vacuuming of the vehicle .

Drive Away Time
Our Technicians use the latest urethanes that in most cases will allow for one hour drive away time.  If this time will vary the technician will inform you.

Windshield Repair

Windshield repair or replacement depends on the size, location and severity of the damage. Usually quarter-sized rock chips and very small cracks can be repaired.

The area of the damage is also very important in determining if your windshield can be repaired or not. Cracks at the edge of the windshield tend to spread very quickly and can compromise the structural integrity of the glass. If they're caught in time, they can be repaired. But in most cases, it's usually advisable to replace the windshield.

Auto Glass Fitters will not repair a chip that appears directly in the driver's line of vision. The repair process leaves minor distortions in the glass. Auto Glass Fitters will never compromise the driver's vision.

Regardless of the size and location of a chip or crack, it's always advisable to have it repaired as soon as possible as dirt can work its way into the damaged area, affecting the effectiveness and clarity of the repair.

Windshield repair involves injection of a special resin into the damaged area using a tool that attaches directly to the glass. Once injected, this resin is then cured and polished to restore the clarity and strength to the glass.

Windshield Repair is a fix to stop the chip from spreading. It is almost non detectable but in some cases there may be some sort of blemish.

Warranty

Your automobile glass is warranted in normal use against leaks and damage due to improper installation. This warranty is valid for as long as you own your car  to the first  purchaser only and provides, at no cost to you, all labor and materials to restore the auto glass to proper condition during the warranted period.

Auto glass warranty does not cover:

Leaks or damage caused by preexisting conditions to the window frame or preexisting rust on the window frame. Damage caused to your windshield by impact with foreign objects (rocks etc), vandalism, theft, accident or reckless conduct resulting in a broken windshield. This is not insurance.
